The Little School

Historical Perspective

Little School Childcare Centre for Integral Child Development Since 1985

Founded in 1985 by Elsa and Enrique Roman, The Little School Centre for Integral Child Development began as a licensed child care centre serving preschool-aged children in Cumberland, Ontario. From the outset, the centre emphasized high-quality, developmentally appropriate programming.

As the community grew, The Little School expanded into its purpose-built facility in the Taylor Creek Business Park and became a non-profit organization in 1989. Today, with funding from the City of Ottawa and oversight by the Ontario Ministry of Education, we continue to offer inclusive, play-based programs that support children’s learning, development, and well-being at every stage.

With more than 35 years of experience, The Little School is a licensed child care centre recognized within the Ottawa-Carleton region for its commitment to high-quality early learning and care. The centre’s programs are delivered by a stable team of qualified and permanent staff who work collaboratively to implement developmentally appropriate programming in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations, and pedagogical frameworks.

The Little School is an approved field placement site for post-secondary institutions, including Algonquin College and La Cité, supporting the professional training of Early Childhood Education students through supervised placements and cooperative education programs.

As a non-profit organization, The Little School operates under the governance of a volunteer Board of Directors composed of parent and community representatives, providing oversight, accountability, and strategic direction.
